The upgrade of an item lets players increase the gear rating of an item by up 700 points, and then add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory before heading to the kiln.

Certain items can be upp'd for their unique stats (like perfect rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) while other items, such as weapons do not vary greatly post upgrade and thus aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

Upgrades to weapons can improve their numerical stats, including attack damage, crit chance and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons also come with a flat bonus that increases the damage they deal per second. The cost of upgrading a weapon's capabilities is contingent on the quality of the weapon and its current level. For instance, an upgrade to a +2 weapon requires two standard Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. Upgrades to weapons also reroll the stats of the base. While this is usually beneficial however, it could have negative consequences as well. Upgrades can render items inaccessible, unless you're exceptionally lucky.

Items of armor can also be upgraded to improve their performance. For example, if you upgrade a helm or chest, it will boost its defense base while gloves and belts increase their strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense%. This means that it may reroll down to a lower value.

The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats that it will gain when upgrading, as well as the values of these stats. This means that an upgrade from an 8 attack-damage sword to an 11 attack-damage sword will result in a weapon receiving an attack damage of 3. To upgrade your armor, go to one of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four Great Fairy Fountains within the game and to unlock them all, you have to complete a side quest that involves the Stable Trotters. After you've completed your main quest and the corresponding fountains, you can talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the menu for upgrading armor.

Each piece of armor can be upgraded up to three levels and the amount of material and Rupees required to complete each level will differ. It is possible to use anything from three Red Chuchu jelly and 10 Rupees to upgrade your first armor piece, and between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade each subsequent one. For example the Champion Leathers could be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep pace with a decent-sized group of enemies in the majority of cold environments and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded up to +20 defense, giving the protection needed to survive the full-on assault with a few of your friends.

It isn't possible to upgrade armor the same as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is best to focus on upgrading your armor for physical strength or the power of spells. You should also save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor you'll still wear by the end of the story, for example the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you'll wear in the final boss fight, the Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

You can also unlock some advantages to your armor by presenting the jeweler in Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. Generally, you'll want to save these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to win the game such as the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer However, it is useful to have some upgrades of the chest armor and helmets to allow you to stealth around certain monsters.

Potions

Potions are liquids that, when consumed by the participant, produce the player with a temporary effect for a short period of time. There are five types of potions with different effects and durations. Some potions can be upgraded to enhance their effectiveness. You can also increase the effects of certain potions by including glowstone dust and redstone.

Potion upgrades cost a specific amount of XP. This can be earned by making them on a crafting table or in the chest of the Alchemist. The price of upgrades will vary based on the kind of potion you wish to upgrade, as well as on the item's Mark Level and rarity.

To upgrade a potion to the next level, right-click on it in your inventory and choose the "Upgrade" option from the menu. This will open a GUI where you can choose the potions you wish to upgrade and the amount of XP they'll give you when upgraded. Finally, there are lingering potions, which are made using splash and dragon breath potions. Redstone is also added to lingering potions to enhance their effects. The table of potion ingredients has been rearranged to appear more like the Java Edition. New potions have also been added for instance, the potion of leaping and decomposition.

Trinkets

A trinket can be a small, inexpensive ornament or piece of jewelry. It may be a reference to an object or ornament that serves a purpose, but is not particularly significant such as a tiny thimble. In some cultures a trinket is used to express friendship or affection between family members.

In addition to armor, weapons, and potions, players are able to upgrade their trinkets. They can be upgraded by going to an upgrade vendor and paying the appropriate amount in currency. Trinkets like other items that can be upgraded, can be swapped at will without losing stats.

The upgrade vendors are located in major cities and the capital of each zone, as well as in some cases, dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets can be purchased using tokens, gold or fragments of a rare trinket.

Upgrades are a cheaper alternative to buying a new trinket. A player can upgrade a trinket with as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same base ilvl as previous one, and will have an additional 1% upgrade bonus.

Trinkets can be upgraded once they are no longer useful which allows a player to increase their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players, making them an attractive alternative to gold.

In general players should upgrade their most important items first. This means that the top-in slot items for each class are upgraded first, followed by their secondary gear and finally other pieces of equipment that won't replace anytime soon (such as rings or cloaks). It is also important to consider your class's preferred stats when deciding the items to upgrade. For example If Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for a tank, they should prioritize upgrading their helm, chest shoulders, belt, and helm.

Once they have become useless trinkets are able to be upgraded to a greater level. The new trinket comes with an additional 1percent bonus. Re-upgrading can cause damage to the trinket unless it is saved using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a higher tier salvage tool. Upgrades to trinkets are more expensive than other upgrades, but still less expensive than purchasing an entirely new trinket.
